About BBIEC?

We are a 100% Indigenous-owned, led and governed, for-purpose co-operative.  We are a collective of Indigenous Enterprises building on our existing cultural knowledge and practices to grow and advocate for a sustainable, innovative, and resilient native food industry; creating economic, social, and environmental opportunities so that our people, enterprises, communities, and Country thrive.

  
A native food enterprise is one that sells products and/or cultural tourism experiences relating to native foods. We, the coop members, each run our own enterprises but come together on things that benefit or impact us all.  We innovate and create through leading research, development, and implementation projects with both Indigenous and non-indigenous partners, embedding our cultural wisdom and knowledge and harnessing Indigenous and Western science and leading practice legal frameworks to advance our human rights and aspirations.  We take a place-based approach to all project design, management and implementation, respecting and celebrating the strengths, contributions, and differences between our members in order to advance the goals of all.

We have a strong history of working together and warmly welcome new members.  Despite all of us being faced with complexity in our everyday lives - climate change and extreme weather events, family and cultural obligations, remoteness, social and economic challenges – we continue to learn and grow,  help each other, and solve challenges together as they arise.  We know how to get things done together in culturally-aligned ways.

The BBIEC is a formal recognition of our existing relationships and achievements and further enables us to lead, strengthen, and continue the progress we’ve made together in the native botanicals industry.
